Delhi Capitals had a promising start to IPL 2025 with a 4-0 record but faltered towards the end, finishing 5th and missing out on the playoffs. Key areas of concern included inconsistent middle-order batting and lacklustre death bowling.
Here are three players who might be released:
1️⃣ T. Natarajan – Bowler – ₹10.75 crore
Despite being one of the top wicket-takers in previous seasons with Sunrisers Hyderabad, T. Natarajan’s IPL 2025 campaign was underwhelming. He played a match, bowling just 18 balls, and was expensive when on the field. At ₹10.75 crore, his cost per delivery was approximately ₹59.72 lakh, making him one of the most expensive players in terms of cost per ball bowled.
2️⃣ Jake Fraser-McGurk – Batter – ₹9 crore
Acquired for a substantial ₹9 crore, Jake Fraser-McGurk’s impact was limited in IPL 2025. He featured in only six matches, scoring 55 runs, and was eventually replaced by Mustafizur Rahman due to personal reasons. Given his high price tag and limited contribution, releasing him could free up funds to invest in a more consistent performer.
3️⃣ Mustafizur Rahman – Bowler – ₹6 crore
Mustafizur Rahman was signed as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk at ₹6 crore. While he brought experience to the squad, his performances were inconsistent, and he did not significantly impact matches. Given the availability of other bowling options and the need to optimize the squad, releasing him could be considered.
Releasing these players would not only free up valuable funds but also create opportunities to strengthen the squad in areas of need. Investing in a reliable middle-order batter like Cameron Green and a death-over specialist bowler could enhance the team’s performance in IPL 2026.
