Welcome to our IPL 2026 Release List Series, where we explore every team and the tough choices they face before the next auction. Now, we turn the spotlight on Punjab Kings.
The 2025 season was a historic one for Punjab Kings, as they finished as runners-up. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and the guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting, the team showcased a blend of experienced internationals and promising young talents. However, to build on this momentum and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, certain tough decisions regarding player releases are inevitable.
Here are three players Punjab Kings might consider releasing:
1️⃣ Glenn Maxwell – All-rounder – ₹4.2 crore
Maxwell remains a world-class talent, but IPL returns have been inconsistent. At 37, his high price and injury history make him a luxury Punjab Kings might struggle to justify. With younger, in-form overseas players already in the squad, releasing Maxwell could free up funds for a dynamic all-rounder or explosive finisher who delivers week in, week out.

2️⃣ Aaron Hardie – All-rounder – ₹1.25 crore
Hardie didn’t make a significant impact during the season. His lower-order hitting were expected to provide balance, but in 2025 he barely featured. Punjab Kings might prioritize an all-rounder who can influence matches consistently, rather than someone who remains on the bench.
3️⃣ Kuldeep Sen – Bowler – ₹80 lakh
Sen’s raw pace is exciting, but his IPL experience is limited, and competition for Indian pacer spots is fierce. By letting him go, Punjab Kings could target a more seasoned bowler with proven IPL credentials to anchor their pace attack.
Punjab Kings fans: every opinion counts. Which release calls do you agree with, and who should be retained as the team aims to go one step further and win the IPL in 2026?
